Salt Lake City: Porte Publishing Company. Good. 1930. Softcover. Condition is good minus. Front cover is thoroughly spattered with water spots. Each cover has some diagonal creasing. Rear cover an area of chipping to the upper edge. Book plate which was formerly attached inside the front cover is present. Two glue spots on the inside of the rear cover. Contents are very good. ; Approx. 5 1/4" wide by 7 1/2". ; 56 pages .

Small 8vo, handsome leatherette binding with gilt title panels on spine and front board. Very good. No dust jacket. With textual illustration of bookkeeping system detail. An 'accounting' of a system developed for the printing trade "after investigating some hundreds of systems of very simple and very complex natures"...; the author follows the story of 'John Smith', who created financial independence for a (newspaper) printing business. The story was first serialized in The Island Printer, and generated demand for a book form, of which this is the second printing. An imaginative combination of narrative and home town wisdom, applied to business. Scarce.

Salt Lake City: Porte Publishing, 1924. First edition.. Original textured brown boards, designed and lettered in gilt on panels of green. Some shelf wear, a very good copy. Porte wrote numerous books to do with commercial printing. This looks like a fictionalized version of some of his travels in the USA, all to do with the economics and printing of a newspaper, THE HERALD. Smith: AMERICAN FICTION 1901-1925, cites an earlier book: "The Printers of Chiapolis" published under the same imprint in [c.1922]; presumably a similar work.

Marbled paper-covered boards, cream paper-covered spine with 12 tipped-in illustrations, deckle edges, some foxing to pastedowns, red mark on spine title, otherwise in near fine condition. Marbled slip case is broken and missing a side so is barely functional. Only including it as it is somewhat scare and may perhaps be reparable.A travelogue of the author's discoveries in printing as practiced around the world in places including the Far East, Cuba, Hawaii, Japan, Korea, Peking, New Guinea, New Zealand, Java, India and Europe.
