About This Item

Munich: Karl Pressler, 1983. Quarto. (12 3/16 x 8 1/2 inches). xxxiv, 280pp., with illustrations. Red cloth, flat spine. Dust jacket.

Standard bibliographic reference. A survey of the impact of printed books on Western civilization.

Often shortened to simply PMM, Printing and the Mind of Man began as a display at the 1963 International Printing Machinery and Allied Trades Exhibition, intended to highlight the importance that printing technology has played in the history of human knowledge. Its catalogue was formalized and published in 1967, and is now considered a standard reference text detailing the enormous impact that printing technology has had on Western civilization in the five centuries since its invention.
