About This Item
Chicago, IL: University of Chicago Press, 1975. Book. Illus. by Rockwell Kent. Fine. Cloth. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Quarto, wheat colored cloth covered boards with cover decoration and copper gilt spine titles. Decoarative endpapers in bronze colored motifs of fir branches and butterflies (which pattern Kent designed for the drapes in the alcove of their breakfast nook). 219 pp. including index, bibliography and 6 appendices. SIGNED NEATLY ON HALF-TITLE BY AUTHOR DAN BURNE JONES, whom Kent designated as his official bibliographer before his death. Foreword by Carl Zigrosser. Very generously illustrated throughout with black and white reproductions of the works of Rockwell Kent, both large and small, famous and overlooked. The body of the work is 156 reproductions of Kent's work with extensive commentary on the page alongside of the reproductions and with media and measurements at top. Appendix I is "Twenty-Two Small Wood Engravings and Woodcuts", Appendix II is "Print Patterns and Designs for Cloth", Appendix III is "Twenty-Eight Drawings by Kent Cut in Wood by J.J. Lankes", Appendix IV is List of Prints Done in Color", Appendix V is "List of Variant Print Titles" and Appendix VI is "Chronology of Prints". Laid in is a photocopied program from a show of 125 of Kent's prints from 1990 at the Associated American Artists in New York. The book cloth is very fresh and the decorations and title gilt sparkling. The interior is completely clean, bright, unmarked and unblemished. The dust jacket is tight and unclipped. There is quite minor rubbing and a bit of accompanying soil to the dust jacket with small tears at the top corners, else fine. A very attractive copy of this important resource for collectors and curators of Rockwell Kent. Fine in Near Fine dust jacket..
