[6], 46 [of 60] pp; 4 pp. publisher's advertisements at rear. 1 vols. 8vo (5-1/2 x 8-13/16 inches). Byron's very free interpretation of the imprisonment of the Sixteenth century Genevan prelate, François de Bonnivard. Byron makes him a hero of religious persecution creating brothers for the prelate to lose under tragic circumstances. Actually, according to one source, he didn't have any brothers lost in this manner and spent most of the time of his imprisonment writing immoral verse. Randolph p. 61; Wise "Byron" I, p. 113 (both for the first edition)
