London: Henry Colburn, 1827. A very good set in handscome bindings of brown polished calf with extra gilt decoration to the spines; pp. vol. I: xxiv, 469; vol. II: xii, 405. Five raised bands to spines with brown and dark brown title labels, gilt decoration to compartments; brown and gold marbled paper boards, matching the end papers. Bindings very good with minimal wear only. Contents clean and tight, a little foxing to front and rear blanks, internal pages unmarked, a few pages slightly rough at edges; title page to vol. I lightly worn at edges. Provenance with the armorial bookplates of Alfred [Newman] Gilbey (1901 - 1998) to the front paste-downs. [Gilbey was a British Roman Catholic priest and monsignor; the longest-serving chaplain to the University of Cambridge, England; and described as the best-known Roman Catholic priest in England during the last quarter of the 20th century. - info from Wikipedia].
