About This Item
London: Heinemann, 1960 . First edition. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 8" by 5". None. A very smart, scarce first edition of this novel telling the story of Mrs. Alice Hand, by Kathleen Nott. First edition, in the publisher's original cloth binding with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Written by British poet, novelist, editor and critic, Kathleen Nott. This particular work was her third novel. 'Private Fires' tells the story of Mrs. Alice Hand, landlady of her dilapidated house in South London where she houses a number of interesting characters, including the orphan country boy Len. Alice survived the Blitz and is determined to build up her fortunes. In the publisher's original cloth binding with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, lovely, with minor shelf wear only. Dust wrapper is excellent, with light edge wear and slight sunning, mainly to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean throughout. Fine
