Description: Two volumes in slipcase (a hefty set -- these two large format books plus slipcase weigh nearly fourteen pounds). The first volume is devoted to the history, customs, and accomplishments of the Anasazi and their neighbors. The story of these ancestors of today's Pueblo Indians has long been veiled by time, and only within the last century have archeologists, searching and sifting through the ruins that dot the landscape of the Southwest, begun to piece together the fascinating details of their origins, development, and culture. In words, color illustrations, and more than 1000 individual drawings, Thomas Mails reveals the locations and the archeological discoveries uncovered at each site. Here, accurately re-created, are the tools with which the Anasazi built, farmed, cooked, and hunted. Here too are the records of their crafts, clothing, utensils, arts, and ceremonial items. The second volume describes the history and culture of the present-day Hop, Zuni, Acoma, Laguna, and Rio Grande Pueblo Indians.
