About This Item

Boston : R. F. Wallcut , 1860. First Edition. Pamphlet. Very good. 23pp. in stitched wraps, printed. Lightly toned, quite neat. Furness, lifelong friend of Emerson, became the minister of the First Unitarian Church of Philadelpha for 50 years. An ardent abolitionist, his attacks on the Fugitive Slave Act led to a controversial discussion involving President James Buchanan.
