Scarce offprint of an article detailing the dismay of the Pynchon family (including Thomas R. Pynchon, namesake of the famous novelist who was a later descendant) at the unwelcome celebrity given their name by the publication of Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The House of the Seven Gables" in 1851. Near Fine copy.
