A portrait of Charlotte Sophia Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1744-1818). King George III chose Princess Charlotte of Germany as his Queen when she was only 17 years old. They had 15 children in the first 20 years of their marriage. The image shows Charlotte in her later years.This engraving by Ryder (1746-1810) and his son of the same name is after the painting by Sir William Beechey (1753-1839). Beechey was a portrait painter and greatly influenced by Sir Joshua Reynolds. He was commisssioned as Charlotte's portrait painter in 1793.1 slight crease.
