About This Item

London: Chatto and Windus, 1886. First Greenaway Edition. Pictorial boards. Very Good/None. Kate Greenaway. Square 8vo, tan cloth with black lettering on spine & brown and black lettering with rules plus a colored Greenaway drawing of three children on the cover, colored frontispeice by Kate Greenaway and 27 smaller colored illustrations, all edges red, 58 pages. Charming title by Brete Harte that elevates a girl's fantasies of adventure with evocative pastel illustrations by Kate Greenaway. Overall, a Very Good copy. Quite tight volume with excellent illustrations. Interior gently age-toned but very clean, clear, and unfoxed. Attractive ink presentation to a six-year old granddaughter on free front endpaper. Cover is slightly rubbed and soiled with a couple of light spots; bruised lower right corner. BAL binding variant (plain endpapers and reddish edges). English printing precedes the American, though both were printed and bound in Great Britain.
