Philadelphia: Lippincott, 1888. vii, 255p., hardcover, title page separated but still present. Inscribed by the author (as Amélie Troubetzkoy) to Edgar Sisson in 1916; signed on title page as Amélie Rives, with her newspaper obituary pasted on facing page. Sisson, a former magazine editor (most recently at Cosmopolitan), had joined the US foreign publicity effort during World War I to rouse international sympathy for American objectives. He was appointed the Russian representative of the United States Committee on Public Information. Rives had married Prince Pierre Troubetzkoy in 1896, after publishing this novel under her maiden name.
