Contemporary Islamic binding in brown goatskin with gilt ornamental tooling to boards. Nineteenth century wove paper pastedowns and small repairs in first leaf. First and last leaf with ink stamp and manuscript date 1312 A.H. (1894 C.E.). Binding with minor staining and rubbing. Textblock shaken. First 28 leaves generally clean, thereafter some staining throughout, affecting legibility at times, 20 leaves with flaws (adhesions or losses). AS IS. 106 leaves. 1 vols. Tall 8vo (28 x 20 cm). Representative example of a part of the Qur'an in the distinctive Maghrebi script and a simple, attractive binding. The Tre Lune watermark (three crescent moons) is seen widely in papers used throughout the Islamic lands of the Mediterranean littoral, and suggests that the paper is of Venetian or possibly French manufacture.
