Fredonia, N.Y.: Card Seed Co.. nd. Ca. 1910's.. Unused seed packet with chromolithograph illustration of radish, 5 x 3 1/4 inches (13 x 8cm). Very good condition. The similarity of package design of these seed packets and those of another New York firm led to these packets never being used, due to the possibility of litigation. They were warehoused prior to World War I. The vividness of the colors is typical of chromolithography, a pre-photographic method of printing, now seldom used in commercial publication. In their superior design, they represent the "Golden Age" of American illustration. .
