About This Item
Harper & Row, 1970. First Edition. Hardcover. FINE. Complete in four 17 cm square volumes. Illustrated finished cloth covers. 'A Book for Each Season.' A poetic tetralogy, copiously illustrated with color and b/w original drawings and collages. Lacks poster. Original plastic case is scuffed and torn but has dutifully preserved the books in pristine condition. After leaving the priesthood in 1966, Pintauro found work as a copyrighter for New York ad agencies. His sensitive eye for the connection of text and image is on full display here, as it was in his breakout 1966 book of poetry, "To Believe in God." As there, Rainbow box is full of hippie and beat style funneled through Vatican II religious sensibility. A lovely and living work from the eventual playright.
