Bound in green publisher’s cloth. No dust jacket. The binding contains a shelf lean; minor rubbing and bumping are present; the spine and edges are lightly faded. A note is handwritten on the verso of the frontispiece (dated Sept. 1916). The title page shows some age-toning. Minor spots of foxing are present on the prelims and on the outer edge of the title. Interior pages are otherwise clean.

First publication of an historic manuscript in the National Museum of Mexico describing the Nahua system of counting and the etymological roots of Nahuatl number words. Originally authored in mid 19th century by notable Mexican linguist Faustino Chimalpopoca, Nahuatl translator to the court of Maximillian and Carlota. Edited and published in a limited edition of only 100 copies by Vargas Rea. Very Good Plus, in printed wraps with an Aztec glyph emblazoned on the front. Rare.

She explained the Esquimaux term for "The Snow Baby," which is "Aphoomikaninny," and gives an account of the strange huts of skin and wood in which they live, of the dogs and queer animals which were her playmates, of the brown-faced men and women and children, who gaped in wonder at the little white baby. She gives an interesting account of the long Arctic night which lasts for months, when the sun never rises. That little Miss Peary was a pet of the White Man's expedition is not to be wondered at. There are many photographs of the Arctic life which illustrate this remarkable book."

Top edge gilt, 31 mounted heliotypes (one is a folding panorama) with tissue guards. Not only is this an album of Paris scenery, but it is also a wonderful study of the vintage automobiles (more than half of the gravures have automobiles and / or traffic scenes) of the period. Contemporary half morroco with six spine compartments between raised bands. Gilt-tooled title in second compartment; gilt-tooled decoration in remaining compartments. Marbled paper over boards. Top page edges gilt. Brown and red decorated endpapers. Errata on unpaginated page following Preface. With: 1920 clipping from the Daily Chronicle of article by Trevor Allen, "Kensington in The Season: Things Seen in a Twilight Stroll." In Very Good Condition: edges are rubbed; clean and bright.

First edition, four volumes, 1909-1920, Washington. Overall very good condition in original bindings. Notable for the complete absence of library or ownership markings. The only marking I can find is an old pencil note on the front blank of volume 3. Includes bound in errata slips and a promotional leaf for the series laid in. The boards have some dings to the corners. Volume 3 has the most condition issues: shows the most outer wear with some stains on the edges and wear on spine and boards (see scans). Bindings are all sound, which I expect can be an issue with this heavy set. A quite decent usable set. Please see scans of the books you will receive.
