A first edition copy of this profusely illustrated memoir of Randolph Caldecott's art career by Henry Blackburn The first edition of this work. The memoirs of Randolph Caldecott's early art career, written by Henry Blackburn. Profusely illustrated with one hundred and seventy two illustrations by Caldecott, a fair amount of which previously unpublished before. Caldecott's artistic abilities were recognised by the Royal Academy, and his work influenced children's books during the nineteenth century. In the original publisher's illustrated cloth binding, with titles stamped in gilt to front board and spine, and gilt to edges. Externally very smart, with slight shelfwear and bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities. Cloth to spine has slightly faded. Internally, hinges are slightly strained at the occasional page, otherwise binding is firm. Minor faint spotting to first and last few leaves, otherwise pages are generally bright and clean.
