[London or Paris?]: Izdanie federatsii Anarkhistov-Kommunistov, 1913. Octavo (18.5 × 12 cm). Original printed staple-stitched wrappers; 8 pp. Unopened and uncut; wrappers detached and lightly chipped at corners. Text very good. A rare pamphlet on radical socialism written by Petr Kropotkin, a Russian revolutionary, activist, and one of the central philosophers of international anarcho-communism. Born into a noble family, Kropotkin (1842-1921) became involved in Socialist activities in 1872. Following arrest and persecution he was forced to flee Russia in 1876, living in France, where he was arrested for anarchist activity, Switzerland, from which he was expelled for his political writing, and England, where he founded Freedom Press, an anarchist newspaper turned publishing house still in operation today. In 1917 he triumphantly returned to Russia after the February Revolution. Although originally supportive of the October Revolution, Kropotkin came to be disillusioned with Lenin's dictatorial tendencies. This pamphlet, originally written in French and published on the eve of WWI, discusses the tactics and failures of the socialist-democrats in Russia and in Germany in reaching workers in urban areas. The pamphlet was published by the Federation of Anarcho-Communists, a clandestine organization that operated from Paris. Not in the Russian State or National Libraries.

Description:
Mit Press, 1970. Softcover. Very Good. 5x0x7. This anthology contains selected essays and correspondence of Peter Alekseevich Kropotkin, who was, after Bakunin's death in 1876, unquestionably the most widely read and respected theorist of anarchism. The selection is designed to reveal such fundamental conceptions as Kropotkin's interpretation of the role of anarchism in modern history, his criticism of capitalism, his theory of revolution, and his views of the ideals to be realized in the postrevolutionary society of the future. The theoretical writings are supplemented by more concrete articles dealing specifically with conditions in nineteenth-century Russia―a society confronted by an authentic revolutionary opposition. Kropotkin's analysis of the revolution itself is implicit in the report of his meeting with Lenin and in his letters to the Bolshevik leader. The letters to Nettlau, Steffen, and Brandes present additional concerns which are closely related to the… Read More
