undated. paper watermarked 1814. (written after 1820).. Minor splits opening in folds else in very good condition.. Two sheets, eight sides, seven sides written, each folded once to 330mm high x 200mm wide. Autograph fair copy of deposition made by Christina Crawford. "Copy Of An Original Paper Once In The Possession Of The Late James Moodie Esq Of Melsetter." The original deposition was written by Christina Crawford, wife of Commodore James Moodie(1645-1725), 7th Laird of Melsetter, on his murder on 26th October 1725. Burrows records that on the death of James Moodie in 1820, all letters and documents were sent to Benjamin Moodie in South Africa. We note that the paper used is the same type as occuring in many of the documents of/by Benjamin Moodie. We conclude that it is likely that this copy was made by Benjamin Moodie, the handwriting seems to match. Transcription and scans on request.
