Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for a F/O name on the title page. Book Condition: Very Good +; light edge bumping; several small smudges to textblock and wraps. No DJ. Pictorial card stock wraps. Wraps are not bent or folded; spine is not creased or split; text is secure in binding. 181 pp 4to. This book is a study of the art on pottery bowls of the Mimbres Indians from about 1000 AD in the Grant, Luna, and Hildago Counties of SW New Mexico. There is a considerable amount of pottery available from the Mimbres Valley due to the ritual of burying pottery with the dead under the floors of their dwellings. The bowls usually have a hold punched in the center to release the spirit of the bowls at burial. These bowls depict a very realistic picture of the life, culture, and animals of this region. Illustrated with hundreds of photographs of pottery from scientific institutions with descriptions and interpretations of the bowl's art. A clean very presentable copy.
