Hardcover. xii, 493p., a reprint of Appleton's 1898 first issue, one of this publisher's nicely leather-decorated series, unfortunately in rather worn condition. Hardbound, 8x5 inch marbled boards quarter-backed in pressed calf with calf corner-tips, t.e.g. with spine titling also gilt. Top and tail rims are rough, corner-tips ditto, hinges are cracked, one crudely repaired with glue, both hinges however are holding; unopened copy (i.e., signatures not trimmed deeply) and the foldlines that must be parted expertly will make you an expert! --a couple small tears have been created by persons unaware of this. A not-unpresentable item, the marblings still look good, most of the leather surfaces look good, a good reading copy. Index mentions "Krapotkin" [sic] but not Marx. Connecticut, author's home, is indexed, with four instances. Jam manufacture in England' caught our eye but the bulk of data Wells uses is American.
