About This Item
New York: The Macmillan Company, 1918 Decorated turquoise cloth; gilt title and spine. Some of contents previously copyrighted by The Atlantic Monthly Company, 1913. With an Introduction by Rufus M. Jones. Personal diary of a young Quaker who was drafted for service in the Union Army in 1863. Unwilling to engage in war, and also unwilling to pay the existing commutation fine of $300, Pringle started down the "hard path of duty." Light rubbing to cover extremities. Irregular patch of white mildew/dampstain at corner of upper rear board alongside spine, with some spots extending through upper spine (title still clear) and two faint spots at upper front board. Margins of lower boards somewhat darkened. Light brownstain shadow corresponding to exterior dampstain--upper internal margins--appears throughout text. Otherwise clean and tight.
