Winners of the National Humanities Medal included: Paul Mellon, Studs Terkel, Stephen Ambrose, E. L. Doctorow, Gary Wills, Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., Garrison Keillor, Jim Lehrer, and Steven Spielberg.
