This story is taken from the author's memories being a WWII soldier in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Okinawa. When a dedicated college student elects to forgo another educational deferment, it leads him into a jungle that is nothing akin to the tropical paradise as depicted by Hollywood. He has but a single option; to honor his oath of allegiance to his nation for "the duration of the war, plus". Seemingly trapped in an alien society for which he is ill prepared, destiny deals him a hand he hadn't anticipated and he finds himself assigned to a clandestine mission behind Japanese lines, where he discovers he must undergo a radical attitude adjustment in order to survive. A newfound friend helps him make the changes. A clean very presentable copy.
