A massive volume which presents the paintings of Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669). With 80 color plates and over 650 black & white illustrations, providing reproductions of Rembrandt's paintings. Rembrandt scholar Horst Gerson tells the story from the perspective of the artist's interactions with other artists and the world around him. His works are catalogued in detail, with dates, dimensions and eventual owner, alongside black & white images of the works. --- In full cream cloth-covered boards with a script 'R' in gilt on red cover block; spine titling in gilt. Jacket features Rembrandt color paintings to front and back panels; with stiff clear printed acetate outer wrapper. --- A clean, tightly-bound, unmarked copy but with minor soiling and a chafed spot to cloth. Jacket with creases, chips and small tears but mostly intact; outer wrap with tearing and minor soiling.
