About This Item

Washington, D.C.: GPO Magazine. Very Good. Soft cover. pp377-382, plus four plates. Removed from ANNUAL REPORT OF THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION FOR THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 1948. VG. In plastic report covers. From the report: "Yet the story of the chestnut is ne every American should know and ponder. And unless the American people show greater understanding of the destructive power of tree killing diseases and insects, the tragedy of the chestnut can be re-enacted." When this report was issued, the American Chestnut was on the verge of extinction but scientists, over the years, have been able to create hybrid versions of the tree..
