This memoir was written upon request of Thomas Assheton Smith's death by his widow. She asked Sir John E Eardley Wilmot to write the memoir in order to redeem her late husband's character following an article written about him in a leading journal. With seven illustrations comprising of three full page plates and four vignettes. Sir John Eardley-Wilmot was a politician and judge in the United Kingdom. He wrote a number of works including an updated edition of his father's Abridgement of Blackstone's Commentaries on the Laws of England. He first wrote his memoir on Thomas Assheton Smith in 1859. He named his son, William Assheton Eardley-Wilmot after Thomas Assheton Smith. In a half calf binding. Externally, smart with rubbing to the spine. and extremities. Lacking spine label.
