Harrisburg: Edwin K. Meyers, 1888. First edition.. Light edgewear to cloth at the head and foot of the spine, overall, a very good copy.. Pp. xii, 260; 50 fine lithograph plates (49 in color) after the work of Audubon. Publisher’s original dark green cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, lg 8vo. Zimmer (p. 663) states: “An account of the birds of the state, with brief descriptions (from Baird, Coues and Ridgway) and with notes on the habits and economic importance of each. This work was issued in an edition of 6000 copies which was exhausted almost at once, and a revised and enlarged edition was therefore prepared and issued in 1890 under the same short title.” This 1888 edition is the first edition. On the front endpapers there are two old signatures. There is also the name stamp of the Ron Sauey Memorial Library on rear endpaper. Ron Sauey was co-founder of the International Crane Foundation, Baraboo, Wisconsin. There is also a plain paper pocket on the rear endpaper.
