The Oregon State Insane Asylum was authorized by the legislature in 1882 and construction began in 1883 in the Kirkbride Plan design. It received its first patients in 1885. There were almost as many women as men: Tables statistically give their their civil status, place of birth, nation of origin, place of residence, age, and "supposed cause of insanity." Other information included relates to clothing and food stuffs.
In addition to the above, the pamphlet contains the "By-laws. rules and regulations of the Board of Trustees of the Oregon State Insane Asylum. Original printed wrappers.
