Scattered, mostly light, foxing. Water stain along the outside edge of last 15 leaves, not affecting text or images, and not sticking. Covers show a few light scuffs and smudges, though overall volume remain tight and fairly clean. Acceptable copy of this scarce first work on the Holstein breed in the U.S. Contents cover early history of the breed and its introduction to the U.S. Details included on all 61 bulls and 67 cows in the U.S. at the time of compilation, most of these having been imported from North Holland.

This work was first to identify all 660 species of reptiles and amphibians known from the continent of Australia with extensive keys to all of the species. According to many authorities, it is the most important book ever published on Australian reptiles. This is the first edition. The book went through a total of seven editions. EDINBURGH: W H LIZARS, 1836 1st edition of Volume V of the Jardine's Naturalist's Library which includes elephants, hippos, hogs etc. in original publisher's cloth binding with 30 plates of which 26 are hand coloured. With listing of volumes in the series; half title; engraved frontispiece of Sir Hans Sloane; vignette title page showing Indian Elephants; 2 further title pages; an advertisement, contents listing; Memoir of Sir Hans Sloane; text with engravings and 30 plates of which 26 are hand coloured. The binding has some sunning to the spine and adjoining section of the boards. There is some chipping to the top and bottom of the spine, with a little loss at the bottom. The original green endpapers are present, with a couple of light inscriptions to the top of the fep. The text is clean - some of it is unopened - and there is some brown toning to edges. The plates are clean and well coloured. Plates 19, 20 and 21 have a slight rumple at the top corner.

London, Paris, New York and Melbourne: Cassell and Company, Limited A very good copy in the original decorative cloth binding with double page frontispiece, 3 further double page plates and 2 single plates. Numerous illustrations in the text. A very scarce work. Undated but probably 1890's. The binding, which has a gilt lop-eared rabbit on the front board and gilt titles to spine is in very good clean condition. There are a couple of small patches of cloth wear on the spine joints, a small lighter area on the back board and light wear to corners. The original endpapers are present - there is a signature 'Florence 16.9.10' to the fep. Contents very clean with light foxing in places (endpapers and margins). With 16 page publisher's catalogue at the rear. A very nice copy.

Scattered, mostly light, foxing. Water stain along the outside edge of last 15 leaves, not affecting text or images, and not sticking. Covers show a few light scuffs and smudges, though overall volume remain tight and fairly clean. Acceptable copy of this scarce first work on the Holstein breed in the U.S. Contents cover early history of the breed and its introduction to the U.S. Details included on all 61 bulls and 67 cows in the U.S. at the time of compilation, most of these having been imported from North Holland.
