Chatto & Windus, 1952. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Good. First Printing. The author's well-received first novel, his second was awarded that year's Gold Dagger. Signed and inscribed at the title page, "To (name), with my sincere good wishes, Edward Grierson, Harrogate, march 1952". Uncommon thus, the book is in VG shape, fore-edge and top-edge slightly age-toned, binding square and tight. Gilt titles to black label at spine, patterned/decorated boards. The dustjacket is unclipped with minor loss at the corners, some nicks at the edges and a small tear at the crown but is not faded and looks quite bright. Off-setting to the the inside of the dustjacket fropm the patterned boards - a Good condition jacket.
