About This Item
Skarstedt Fine Art, 2001. First Edition, First Printing. Paperback. New. SKARSTEDT FINE ART, New York 2001. Hardcover, no dust jacket (as issued). First Edition, First Printing. 8 x 12 Inches. 47 pages with Prince's seminal and now iconic "re-photographs" throughout, a series that helped initiate Prince's explosive artistic career. BOOK CONDITION: Mint; still sealed in the publisher's original shrinkwrap. Richard Prince: Early Photographs 1977-1979 was published on the occasion of his eponymous exhibition at Skarstedt Fine Art in early 2001. These early Prince photographs initiated Prince's exploration of authorship and the original; ideas that were prevalent in the critical discourse of the late 70's, and perhaps even more so today. By manipulating the means and products of mass media, Prince gives his viewers a glimpse of American culture as directed towards middle-class consumers.
