"'Varianti' è un libro-progetto interamente concepito dall'Autore, sia nella scelta delle immagini che nei testi. Guido Guidi ha immaginato il libro come la più naturale sequenza di immagini che si susseguono col ritmo di una narrazione intima, pura, come quella, semplice, delle fotografie di un album. Tutte le immagini che datano dal 1969 al 1994 sono riprodotte in grandezza originale e nella loro più totale interezza, come oggetti leggeri, con i segni che l'uso e il passare del tempo ha lasciato su di loro, appoggiati sulla pagina (dal risvolto di copertina) / "Varianti is a project book conceived entirely by the author, both as regards the choice of images and the text. Original blue pebbled cloth, AEG, gilt lettering front cover & spine, gilt decoration of box camera and ice-axe on front cover, gilt title frame front, gilt rules spine ends, debossed triple borders front & rear covers. Diffuse grubbiness covers, rubbed spine ends and corners, no owner writing or marks on any pages, solid binding, paper cracked inside hinges but hinges strong and not broken (mess is solid and tight), some foxing in places but considerably less than what is frequently found for this book. The book measures 275mm tall x 215mm, and has 243 pages, 28 b/w photos, map. This is probably the earliest mountaineering book to use photographs as illustrations. Account of the author's excursion to Bernese Oberland with the purpose of photographing the mountains and the climbing. C'est avec lui qu'au printemps de 1912, songeant à donner une nouvelle édition de ses Phéniciens et l'Odyssée, Victor Bérard entreprit de refaire le périple d'Ulysse dont, par une patiente étude, il s'était efforcé d'identifier toutes les étapes. Dans cette Méditerranée où rien ne change, il put retrouver intacts les sites et les paysages qui rendaient tout leur sens aux descriptions du Poète. (...)
