The First UK Printing with ten engravings on copper by David Jones, published by Douglas Cleverdon for the Fanfare Press, Bristol in 1929. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition with the publisher's original oatmeal cloth and gilt titling to the spine. The cloth is rubbed to the spine with some loss in places involving some of the gilt lettering. Some age related markings to the boards. Internally clean. Top edge gilt with others uncut. The binding remains very tight. Free from inscriptions, erasures and bookplates. Number '12' of only 60 special copies, Numbered and Signed by David Jones , with an extra complete set of the engravings in their final state, loosely inserted into a folder attached to the rear pastedown as issued. The total limitation size was only 470 copies. All the engravings within the book and in the additional set are complete and are in Fine condition. The publisher's original 4 page Prospectus with one engraving is loosely inserted. This Prospectus is in near Fine condition. The book is protected in a removable Mylar archival cover. One of Jones' highlight titles and one of the most significant illustrated books to be published in the inter-war years. Many copies have been broken up over the years and this is now a very elusive title to be found with such attributes. More images available on request. Ashton Rare Books welcome direct contact.
