THIRD PRINTING of 1977 – Maclean's famous book of short stories, including the title story that was a 1992 movie directed by Robert Redford and starring Brad Pitt and Tom Skerritt. The movie was quite successful, winning an Academy Award for Best Cinematography. Fine minus book with touch of shelf wear and a gift inscription to front end-page that reads: 1977 Happy Birthday Dad Love Barb, Ray & Sherry. The price-clipped dust jacket is Very Good with light edge and corner wear, mild color loss at corners, spine ends, and front flap fold, slight rubbing and touch of sun toning to spine. Below the gift notation Maclean has inscribed the book: To Kenneth Powell, (some fishing stories) who should be quite a fisherman himself, sharing birthdays with the best fisherman I know. Then signed below Norman Maclean. Maclean signed very few books personally, although there was a Univ. of Chicago signed limited in 1983 and a Pennyroyal Press signed limited in 1989.

Octavo, softcover, near fine in golden green and blue autumn scene pictorial wraps. 217 pp. This was a great film in the early 90's starring Brad Pitt... (one of my all time favorites). one of the most moving stories of our time; it captivates readers with vivid descriptions of life along Montana's Big Blackfoot River and its near magical blend of fly fishing with the troubling affections of the heart. It is a world populated with drunks, loggers, card sharks, and whores, but also one rich in the pleasures of fly-fishing, logging, cribbage, and family. By turns raunchy and elegiac, these superb tales express, in Macleans own words, a little of the love I have for the earth as it goes by. Norman Fitzroy Maclean (December 23, 1902 â August 2, 1990) was a Scottish-American professor at the University of Chicago who became, following his retirement, a major figure in American literature. Maclean is best known for his collection of novellas A River…
