About This Item

Chicago, IL: Reilly & Britton, 1909. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. John R. Neill. Quarto. Light-green finely woven cloth-covered boards. (9 1/4 in. x 7 in.). Very light rubbing to extremities. All corners very gently nudged. Front board is LOVELY. Alas, Rear board has vertical strip of staining/discoloration running along entire edge of rear board, but the Ozma and Dorothy silhouettes on the back are unaffected. (see photo) Pictorial endpapers consisting of Ozian characters.

Binding Variant A. Binding case in finely-woven, linen-like cloth. All first edition points present: Pages printed on sheaves of color-tinted paper; "In the very earliest copies, the following words are present in perfect type: p. 34, line 4: 'Toto on'; Numeral at bottom of p. 121; Numeral and caption at bottom of p. 129; Pages [263]-[264] show advertisements for Laura Bancroft titles and for four Baum books, respectively"

A mostly lovely VERY early copy of an early OZ title, overall, in unusually nice condition (except for the stain on the rear, that is).
