About This Item
Secker & Warburg, 1973. 1st edition. Hardcover. Fine red cloth in near fine matching slipcase, gilt spine lettering on boards, very clean pages, numbered 2 out of 100 such copies. Edited and introduced by Walter Allen, and signed by Walter Allen, the author's wife G.A. Wyndham Lewis and the artist Michael Ayrton, whose etching of Lewis is tipped in at the front and is also signed by him in pencil. Lewis's novel, a satire on the book world of the 1930s, was intended to be issued in 1936, but Cape withdrew at the last moment fearing libel. A nice copy.
