Original teal cloth with the white lettering bright and in tact and with the pink stripe unfaded on the upper cover and the spine. Beautiful and rich. Dustjacket is richly colored with a small closed tear on the front small and light wear to the spine head and joints. Some toning to the rear. The author's very uncommon second book. Welty's loose retelling of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale, set against a Southern backdrop. Copies in this condition are mostly not found at all. One of the best we've seen of this wartime production. Octavo. 185 pages.

Synopsis

The Grimm's Brothers' fairy tale, The Robber Bridegroom, is retold through the lens of the American South in this Eudora Welty novel. Set along the Natchez Trace, the story tells of Rosamond, who was kidnapped away from her home by a bandit. The tale contains mistaken identities, the cruel stepmother, beauty, terror, sex, and violence - all the best that fairy tales have to offer.
