Paris: Baudry's European Library, 1838. [2], 370pp. Contemporary half-calf, marbled endpapers, contrasting red morocco lettering-piece. Lightly rubbed, some surface loss to upper board. Upper hinge exposed, early armorial bookplate and recent book-label of Iain J. A. S. Woolley to FEP, slight loss to head of dedication leaf. The first Continental edition (printed in the same year as the first English edition) of George Payne Rainsford James's (1799-1860) fourteenth published novel; an historical drama concerned with romance within the circles of English aristocracy. . 8vo.
