Ex school library copy, with minimal stamps etc .In good red cloth boards, gilt titles to front and spine; tightly bound, unmarked covers, spine sunned, with white library ref on tail end. Tanned free end papers. The front paste down has college book plate and a library sticker. All edges slightly foxed; the tail edge is deckled. Good text block, tight, with foxed prelims, early pages, Index and sporadically in text. Small library stamp on title page. Frontispiece of Harley with tissue guard (foxed).

Methuen & Co., 1902. Hardcover. Very Good Plus. Harley was Prime Minister from 1710 to 1714 after serving as Speaker Of The House Of Commons. he was imprisoned in the Tower Of London in1715 although he was stoutly defended by Swift and others. Harley was a book and manuscript collector and accumulated one of the most important collections in England, much of which went to the Crown after his death. He was close to Queen Anne and, in fact, loaned her money. He was the first Earl Of Oxford. Some rubbing to cloth.Previous owner's name on inside front board.
