One of 400 copies, quarto size, 168 pp. The acclaimed Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) based "The Silverado Squatters", a travel memoir of his two-month honeymoon trip to Napa Valley with his wife Fanny Vandegrift, on the "Silverado Journal". The journal comprises Stevenson's thoughts and experiences while travelling through Napa Valley; this printing is taken from the original journal. Printed by the esteemed Grabhorn Press, for The Book Club of California, the book includes the myriad corrections of the original journal, printed in red with Stevenson's corrections printed above the original line of text. Included also is a facsimile of the only known Robert Louis Stevenson letter written from Mount Saint Helen, sent to his mother. This book was included in the Exhibition of Western Books (Rounce & Coffin Club).

___DESCRIPTION: Quarter black cloth with decorative red cloth boards, red cloth spine label with black lettering and ornaments, fore- and bottom edges uncut, title page in red and black, facsimile of journal title page frontispiece, eleven inserts of notes from the original journal printed on lighter paper, facsimile of the only known Robert Louis Stevenson letter written from Mount Saint Helen at the back of the book; handset Oxford type, machine-made paper, quarto size (11.5" by 9"), pagination: [i-vii] viii [ix] x-lxx [lxxi] lxxii [1-4] 5-95 [1 colophon], one of 400 copies, unnumbered.

___CONDITION: Volume is better than very good; with straight corners, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings, the boards are clean overall with some minor soiling to the back board; two very small spots at the rear joint where the cloth of the spine is slightly abraded, else an excellent copy.
