[Rodger McPhail (b.1953 -) Rodger McPhail is a British watercolour artist, best known for his detailed wildlife paintings of sporting fowl, fish, and dogs. Born in Westhoughton, England, McPhail found early success when his work was featured on the front cover of the British sporting magazine The Shooting Times in 1972. An accomplished hunter himself, McPhail's interest in painting stems from the sport. "I was absolutely riveted by what was in the country, perhaps because we lived in a city it held more of a fascination," stated the artist in reference to his preferred subject matter. His body of work also includes cartooning and commercial illustration for various periodicals and greeting cards. McPhail studied at Coventry and Liverpool Art Colleges, and currently lives and works in Lancashire, England. His work has been published in many titles and he exhibits at the Rowntree Tryon Gallery with much success. McPhail is a leading British sporting and wildlife artist, at the very forefront of the genre. He is also a sensitive portraitist and is in demand as a cartoonist and illustrator. Many of his paintings have been reproduced as limited edition prints, and is world renowned for his iconic label image for Famous Grouse Scotch whisky.].
