About This Item

London, UK Orion Publishing: Chapman's, 1993. Hardcover First Edition [1993], so stated. First Edition [1993], so stated. Very Near Fine in Fine DJ: The Book shows only minute spine lean; the binding remains perfectly secure; the text is clean. The DJ is flawless; the price is unclipped; mylar-protected. Virtually 'As New'. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (9.5 x 6.4 x 1 inches). xvii, 219 pages. Illustrations, appendix, notes, bibliography, index. Weight: 1 pound, 5.6 ounces. Hardback with DJ. I was engrossed in this book from the moment I opened it. I had half expected to find it to be wildly speculative and mostly imaginary. I was surprised. This book did not promote the conspiracies or conspiratorial thinking, but rather looked at each "possibility" with more of a researcher's dispassionate approach. Obviously not written by someone with their own agenda, but rather a a product of a researcher's inveterate curiosity. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in the Romanovs. This book is one of the best written about the disappearance and unsolved questions of the last tsar and his family and I have read many! Michael Occleshaw is a British historian and he apparently has researched deeply into the subject for this book. He speculates a great deal about which of the missing daughters who might have survived and believes this to be Tatiana who possibly was saved by the English eccentric and adventurer Richard Meinertzhagen. I found a lot of information in this book that I haven't seen anywhere else - including the best known, like Massie's books. It was first published in 1993 so naturally many of the events of the recent years in this field are not included but still it's one of the most fascinating and informative I`ve encountered. I recommend it to anyone who has an interest in the Romanov mystery.
