About This Item

Paris: Ernest Flammarion, 1908. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Signed by Author(s). Very rare and collectible. Three-quarter calf morocco with marbled boards (hardcover) with leather covered corners, 32,3 x 23,5 cms., 1st edn, frontispiece in heliogravure as a portrait, VIII, 445, (3) pps. with approx. 300 illustrations + six plates executed in heliogravure, bibliography, iconography, appendices, matching marbled endpapers. Front cover is loose at top portion of spine. Extra illustrations pasted in, loosely inserted engraving by Klumpke who has signed the book in pencil on half page. Her signature is very rare. She and Bonheur were admittedly lovers after they met in Paris in the 1890s. Also signed by Conrad K. Roland, artist of New Jersey bird studies, influenced by Bonheur, whose collection is in the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. Wonderful association copy. French text. Heavy weight book.
