About This Item
[s.l., s.n.], c. 1950. Pictorial map by an anonymous draughtsman for the principal bus operator in south Devon, 35.5 x 43.5 cms, printed in colours, blank verso. The map makes playful references to local history (Drake playing bowls on Plymouth Hoe; a convict breaking rocks on Dartmoor) and numerous references to leisure pursuits, including shooting, fishing, golfing and sea bathing. The costumes (bathing and otherwise) could easily be 1930s, and the livery of the buses (red with cream relief) was already current before the war, but the map may well have been issued over a considerable period.
