New York: The Century Company, 1897. Brief gift inscription. Tiny brown speckles (light foxing) on the endpapers, else clean, tight, and unmarked. Inner hinges are perfectly sound. Original green cloth, gilt. Top edge gilt. Printed by The DeVinne Press on white coated paper. The front cover features a silhouette of the doctor in his horse and buggy, stamped in colors, within a gilt box. Gilt on spine and cover is still bright and shiny. Profusely illustrated with frontispiece, 26 full-page plates, and numerous drawings in the text, by C. M. Relyea. This long poem was originally published in two issues of the CENTURY MAGAZINE, November and December, 1897. This is the first appearance between hard covers. Russo pp. 69-70. BAL 16625.
