The seventh book in Saylor's 'Roma Sub Rosa' historical mystery series set in ancient Rome and featuring Gordianus the Finder. Julius Caesar and his army is marching on Rome, where his rival for power at the top of the Roman Empire, Pompey, is preparing a retreat to the south. Pompey's cousin and protege', is found strangled. Pompey takes Gordianus' son-in-law hostage, demanding the killer be found. Gordianus, with a son who is a trusted aide to Caesar, must find a killer before he and his family are crushed between the forces of this world-changing civil war. Spine ends slightly bumped, a touch of soiling on text's edges, o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square, not remaindered. The dustjacket shows only some light rubbing and very minor edgewear, no tears, no creasing or chipping, not price-clipped. A collectable copy.
