Two volumes in one. xvi, 474, [2] pp., illustrated with an engraved folding map by Bailleul le Jeune. 12mo, 160 x 90 mm., bound in contemporary French calf, gilt title on red label and gilt tooling on spine, all edges stained red. Paris: Valleyre, 1757. Second edition of this index of the streets of Paris. The first volume covers the streets of Paris, intersections, cul-de-sacs, cloisters, courtyards, passages, stairs, bridges, gates, docks, squares, and general descriptions of homes. It also lists chapels, churches, convents, public schools, colleges, academies, hospitals, hotels, and offices. The book is accompanied by a foldout map showing the 20 districts of the city of Paris. The second volume lists villages, castles, and beautiful homes in the surrounding area ca. 35 miles around the city. Jean Baptiste Michel was geographer to the King and used Jean Baptiste Michel Renou de Chevigné Jaillot because he had married the granddaughter of the important French geographer Charles-Hubert Jaillot. He is also the author of the more well-known Recherches critiques, historiques et topographiques sue la ville de Paris, avec le plan de chaque quartier.
