SAIKEN SHINPOH OMI NO KUNI OEZU: LARGE MAP OF OMI PROVINCE.

Osaka 1742, Murakami. Blue covers, worn, rubbed, woodblock printed map, lightly hand colored, 139.5 x 80cm., very good, minor old worming, key, list of famous families shows many "Mon" or Samurai crests. FIRST EDITION shrines, temples &c. The main roads towns, villages labeled, mountains shown, also the lake, directional bold characters, three small faint stains, dated colophon. * A famous and SCARCE early map showing the whole province. It is printed in black with hand-tinted gauche, using pale brown, yellow highlights for lands belonging to various Hatamoto or Samurai clans, mountains in pale yellow, pale brown for sail boats, villages, and towns. * MON CHART: There is a chart of various Mon [family crests] which identifies which lands belong to which families and clans. Ten different Mon are listed, with the associated amount of land owned, names of the elders and superiors. * GRAND LAKE: In Omi province there is a grand and large lake in the center, it is shown with small ship, and the river overflow to the south side. * MAP ORIENTATION. The map is oriented with east at the top, north to the left and south to the right, with west at the bottom. Large characters indicate these directions. * A key to the colors and symbols are found at the bottom. * DISTANCE CHART: There is a chart showing Li [Japanese miles] at the lower right corner, showing distances from various places. * GRAND SIZE: This is a grand size wall map. Suitable for library and gallery display. * CONDITION: The map is nicely printed with black ink outline with strong impression. There are two pale spots near the title.
