New York: The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record Book. Good. Soft cover. Removed from THE NEW YORK GENEALOGICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD Vol. XVIII, Jan. 1887, pp1-13, portrait of Provoost. VG in plastic report cover. An address to the Genealogical and Biographical Society. Samuel Provoost, 1742-1815, was the first Protestant Episcopal Bishop of New York, consecrated in 1787. He sympathized with the American Revolution, and after it was over, helped in organizing the Protestant Episcopal church. He was chosen a regent of the University of the State of New York (1784), and was named chaplain to Congress (1785) and to the U.S. Senate (1789). .
